Jobs in the Health Professions field often provide support to doctors, either by offering direct care to patients, or assisting with any paperwork that might be necessary for patients to receive that care. Home Health Aides help patients (often those who are elderly or chronically ill) in their homes. They may help with daily activities (getting dressed, doing housework) and help with basic healthcare needs, like making sure medication is taken at the right time or arranging doctor's appointments.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics provide emergency medical care and respond to 911 calls. They transport sick or injured people to hospitals, and take care of a patient's medical needs on the way there. EMTs and Paramedics are also responsible for cleaning and restocking their ambulance between calls.

Medical, Nursing, and Dental Assistants help doctors, nurses, and dentists with basic patient care. They may ask patients about their medical history and report that information, help with the first parts of a doctor's visit by measuring patients' vital signs, and help prepare examination rooms.

Radiologic and MRI Technologists maintain and operate imaging equipment that helps doctors diagnose patients. They also make sure patients are safe during the actual diagnostic procedures. Phlebotomists draw blood samples from patients for tests ordered by doctors, for diagnosis, donation, or research.

Medical Records and Health Information Technicians record and maintain information about patients and their treatment. They may also code this information and coordinate with insurance companies to make sure that payments are processed and received correctly.
